Guided Principles

The strategic, long-term commitment is to give outstanding progress and attainment for all pupils and for our children to Respect, Aspire and Achieve. Our intent is to deliver a themed curriculum, which enables all our children to become confident and ambitious, lifelong learners. Our intent is to develop our children's skills and knowledge as well as encourage curiosity, aspiration and a love of learning that will continue into adulthood.

A curriculum that develops every child's ability to car, respect and understand themselves, others and the world in which they live. A curriculum that also ensures that every child feels valued and cared for. A curriculum that ensures all children have the skills, knowledge and attitude to achieve in all aspects of their lives.

 

Curriculum Approach

Our approach in lesson design is based upon our strong knowledge of pedagogy and our understanding our children's needs. This is to ensure that each lesson maximises both learning and our core values of Respect, Aspire, Achieve. Lessons are expertly designed to develop children's mastery of a subject. This can be through small steps or through the development of an enquiry in a lesson.

Intent

Our intent is that subjects are taught in discrete lessons to ensure understanding in that area and to develop a love of that subject, however, where possible, the subject is thematically linked so that the curriculum topic engages our children and has a positive impact on their learning. Connections between subjects are meaningfully made to reinforce learning where appropriate.

We are a reflective school and continually strive to improve our teaching and learning in light of the latest research and this has included a focus on how to improve children's long-term memory of the knowledge provided in school.

Implementation

The curriculum consists of many planned experiences in school and out: lessons, topics days, school council, collective workshops, clubs, visitors, workshops, residential trips, fundraising and community work. Outcomes may be designed to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum but also to develop the skills needed for learning and for life. Our vibrant and rich curriculum is designed so that the subject-specific skills and scaffolded within a cross-curricular theme or context each term. In order to ensure that progression and balance is maintained, the programmes of study are then developed into medium-term plans, which clearly highlight learning objectives, assessment opportunities, differentiated tasks as well as links to other subjects.

These topics are designed to extend reach child's cultural capital and future success. The themes engage children to work towards a final project, show or community event. Teachers then translate these plans into smaller units - half-term, weekly, daily plans where the specific needs of learners are addressed.

Staff are dedicated to supporting individual children to overcome barriers to learning, including support for social, emotional and or/academic barriers. Improving children's growth mindset and resilience is an essential part of our curriculum. Staff take time to understand what motivates each child to learn.

Children's knowledge, understanding and progress across all subject areas as well as their desire and ability to learn will be measures by:
