Dear Class 5,

I am very excited to introduce our new topic for the Autumn Term –

World War Two and the Battle of Britain.

Last Saturday marked the 80 year anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain. There are lots of programmes on the television at the moment about the Battle of Britain – see what you can find out. 

Over the summer holiday, it would also be wonderful if you could research a little further, ready for our new theme. 

Here are some activities you could try with your family:

• visit a museum – Eden Camp near Malton is excellent and a great day out;
• draw an Anderson shelter and find out what they were used for;
• look up some wartime recipes and have a go at cooking them – why were war time recipes different?

I would also recommend the book ‘Carrie’s War’ by Nina Bawden. This is a great story which I’m sure you will enjoy but will also tell you lots about World War 2.

You may also have your own great ideas for World War 2 projects.
