Dear children,
I cannot believe that we are at the final challenge! I want to say a big thank you to all children who have participated in my challenges - it has been lovely seeing the completed challenges and hearing from you all through e-mail.
Your final challenge is to draw or paint me a picture of your dream holiday.
Consider the following:
- Where would your dream holiday destination be?
- What would you do on the holiday?
- Who else would be there with you?
Make your drawings/paintings as colourful as they can be.

Dear children,
The end of the school year is fast approaching! I find it hard to believe that we are now on challenge 11!
This week's challenge is same as the one from week 5. I would like you to do something that you really enjoy.
You could:
- paint a picture
- build something out of lego
- bake
- go for a walk with your family
- ride your bike
- create a dance
- play a boardgame
Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have fun!

Week 10 - W/C 29.06.20
Dear children,
Normally, at this time of year, school sports day would be taking place in primary schools across the UK. Unfortunately, we have been unable to have our normal whole school sports day events this year.
However, this week your challenge is to set up your own sports day at home.
You will need to:
- Decide which events will take place e.g. running races, egg and spoon, space hopper race, balance race. Be imaginative!
- Participate in each event. Make sure you time yourself!
- Encourage other members of your family to take part!

Dear children,
Reading is very popular and many children (and adults) love getting lost in a good book.
I am sure you have all read many books in school and at home. Some popular authors include Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson, Julia Donaldson, JK Rowling, David Walliams and Beatrix Potter.
Your challenge this week is to think of your favourite book and draw me a poster all about it.
You will need to:
- Include the book title/author on your poster.
- Draw pictures of the characters and key events in the story.
- Give it a star rating out of five.

Week 8 - W/C 15.06.20
Dear children,
Theme Parks are popular across the United Kingdom and in the next couple of months they will reopen to visitors.
I am sure some of you may have visited Flamingo Land, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park or even Legoland. Last year, I visited Flamingo Land with my family and went on many rides including Velocity, Kumali and Mumbo Jumbo.
Your challenge this week is to design your own theme park.
You will need to:
- Decide if you are going to draw your theme park or create it using lego/other resources.
- Decide which rides you will include – remember you will need to make sure it is suitable for all the family!
- Do not forget to include food outlets and gift shops!
- Give your theme park a name.
We are very lucky this week as Teaching Personnel are kindly providing a £10.00 Amazon voucher as a prize for the most creative entry – this will be picked by a member of the Teaching Personnel team. We will reveal the winner in my weekly letter on Monday 29th June. All entries must be received on or before Monday 22nd June.

Week 7 - W/C 08.06.20
Dear children,
Last August, I visited New York City for the first time. I visited many places, including: The Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building and Central Park. What amazed me the most when walking around New York was the size the buildings! They were very, very tall! You can see one of the buildings in the photo attached to this challenge.
Your challenge this week is to build your own skyscraper!
You will need to:
- decide what you are going to use to build your skyscraper e.g. lego, recycled materials, newspaper.
- build your skyscraper. I wonder how tall you can make it?
- give your skyscraper a name.

Dear children,
I hope you all had a good half-term break and managed to enjoy some of the lovely sunshine!
Superheroes are very popular on TV, in movies and in comics.
Your challenge this week is imagine you are a superhero!
You will need to:
- Create your own superhero name.
- Decide what your superhero powers will be.
- Draw a picture of you as your superhero.
You could even design and create a superhero outfit to wear!

This week is the half-term holiday.
Your challenge this week is to do something you enjoy. You could:
- paint a picture
- build something out of lego

Dear children,
Baking is very popular in the United Kingdom and I am sure many of you have seen The Great British Bake Off on television.
Your challenge this week is to design and/or bake a cake/biscuits. The design is completely up to you and it can be decorated anyway you like.
If you decide you do not want to bake a cake/biscuits, that is absolutely fine - instead just draw/paint me a picture of what your perfect cake/biscuits would look like.
Be as creative as you can!
Make sure you get your parents to help/supervise you with any baking!
Once you have finished, get a parent/carer to take a photo of what you have created and ask them to e-mail it to weeklychallenge@gartonprimary.co.uk for me to have a look at.
I will create a montage of all your creations which will be available on the school website next week.

Week 3 - W/C 11.05.20
Dear children,
In a few months, once everything is back to normal, I am considering moving house and I have been thinking about what my dream home would contain.
Your challenge this week is to design and/or build your own dream home.
It will need to have a living room, kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom, however you may want to add other rooms using your imagination! A cinema room? An indoor swimming pool? A games room? A chocolate room?
You can either draw/paint me a picture of your dream home or build a model using construction equipment/lego/recycled materials.
Be as creative as you can!
Once you have finished, get a parent/carer to take a photo of what you have created and ask them to e-mail it to weeklychallenge@gartonprimary.co.uk for me to have a look at.
I will create a montage of all your creations which will be available on the school website next week.

Week 2 - W/C 04.05.20
Dear children,
This Friday (8th May 2020) marks 75 years since the end of World War 2 in Europe. On this day, in 1945, years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets to celebrate peace.
Your challenge this week, to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, is to create your own Union Jack flag.
Your flag can be any size. Possible ways to make your flag:
- Draw.
- Paint.
- Use lego.
- Bake.
- Sew.
- Use a tablet/computer.
Be as creative as you can!
Once you have finished, get a parent/carer to take a photo of you with your flag and ask them to e-mail it to weeklychallenge@gartonprimary.co.uk for me to have a look at.
I will create a montage of all the photos sent in and will publish it on the school website next week.

Each week, I will be setting the children a challenge to complete at home. All challenges are optional.
Week 1 - W/C 27.04.20
Dear children,
Unfortunately, due to the school being closed, I have been unable to meet you all in person.
Your first challenge is to create a poster all about you! This will allow me to get know more about the children at Garton on the Wolds. When we return, feel free to ask me questions to see how much I can remember!
Your poster can be any size. Make it as bright and as colourful as you can. Be creative!
Information you might include:
- Your first name, age and class.
- A drawing of yourself.
- Favourite things e.g. subject, colour, book, food, animal, visits you've been on with school.
- What you would like to be when you grow up?
- If you could have one wish, what would it be?
Once you have completed your poster, and it's the best it can possibly be, get a parent/carer to e-mail it to weeklychallenge@gartonprimary.co.uk for me to have a look at.
